Just a fun project I made recently. :)

It started out as a white canvas, which I glued a few book pages to, and then painted over using pink paint mixed with a heavy gel medium. Then I misted it with some pink Tattered Angels spray mists and after it was all dry I glued buttons onto it.

Reversible Art

Here's an art piece I made for my sisters apartment.. I took a big piece of foam board and painted one side. I was going for a 70's mod look. ;)

On the other side of the foam board I made a Giant Polaroid. I enlarged my picture so that it fit on 4 8&1/2"x11" pieces of paper, and then I pieced them together on the foam board.

I am going to be hosting what I'm calling "Punk Projects Craft Marathon", It's a free 10 week craft challenge with a marathon theme. It will be hosted on a blog of it's own, not punk projects.

Each week will have a different challenge based on a color, example: Week 1 is called "miles 1 & 2" and the challenge is to use the color apple green in your project. There will be a flickr gallery where participants can upload their project each week.

I will also be posting alot of free downloads!

This is a challenge not a contest. At the end of the challenge there are going to be LOTS of giveaways for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, as well as other awards.

The prizes are based on how many of the challenges you participate in, for exanmple:

If you do all of the challenges you get entered into the 1st place drawing. 5 or more, you get entered into 2nd place drawing. and less the 5 and you get entered into the 3rd place drawing.

I have a limited number of sponsor spots on the Craft Marathon blog! That is 10 WEEKS of advertising! All you have to do to be a sponsor is donate a prize.

Swimming With Dolphins

Wow, I've made it to week 3 without missing any days! :) I've been using my iphone quite a bit more than I thought I would, just because I neer seem to have my camera with me.

1. Mckinney Falls state park, 2. watching Star Trek, 3. Scrapbooking, 4. Saw a couple of bob cats and a coyote while biking, 5. volunteering at the library, 6. Rock climbing, 7. buttons!

Dress Up Your Roll

Quilt Jane is having a "Dress Up Your Roll" sewing competition. Here's a little bit from her blog post- "The toilet roll is always last to be best dressed. It is often hidden in the cupboard or left bare and exposed on the top of the toilet suite. I want to challenge all quilters and crafter to come up with some original ideas. Covers are simple and quick to make. They are a great way to use up scraps."

Bob the Gator

On our way back home from the trip we took along the east coast last year we were driving through the Everglades in Florida and we saw a sign that said "Get your picture with an alligator" and being the animal lover/daredevil that I am, I did it!

Bob the Gator was about 5 yrs old, and so tame. The only reason he had the muzzle on was because it was the law. When I wasn't holding him, the guy took the muzzle off.

For this layout I took 2 sheets of 12x12 paper and cut them both into 1" strips and then weaved them all together to make the background. I really love how it turned out, I think it worked perfectly for an alligator page!

National Popcorn Day + Softie Tutorial

Did you guys know that today is National Popcorn day? I l-o-v-e popcorn! It's like the perfect snack.

Anyway, In honor of popcorn day, I made this little pop corn softie/plushie! Isn't he the cutest?

Here's how to make your own!

Supplies: Red, White, and Yellow Felt, 2 Black Buttons, Cotton Stuffing, Hot Glue Gun (optional) Sewing Machine or Needle and Thread.

Download the Pattern here.

1. On my pattern, you sill see a front piece and a side piece. cut 2 of each of these out of red felt. There will also be an oval shape-Cut that out of yellow felt. Also cut six 5"x1" strips of white felt.

Sew the white strips to the red felt, 2 on the front and back pieces, and 1 on the sides.

2. Pin the yellow oval onto the front piece of your popcorn bucket. Sew around the edge.

Also sew on the 2 buttons for eyes, and embroider a mouth.

3. Place a side piece on top of the front piece(right side down), lining up the right edge. Sew them together than fold the side piece over.

Place the back piece on top of the side piece, lining up the right edge. Sew them together. Repeat with the next side piece.

Now that you have all of your pieces sewn together, fold the left edge over to the right. Pin and sew.

You should now have a popcorn bucket without the bottom, so lets make the bottom piece!

4. Stand your bucket up onto a piece of red felt and measure of big the bottom needs to be. With your bucket inside out, pin the bottom piece to the bucket. Stitch them together. This is easiest with a needle and thread, but it is possible to do it with the sewing machine. (I know, because I did it. haha)

5. Flip right side out and cut a small piece of cardboard to fit in the bottom of your popcorn bucket. stick it down in the bottom.

6. Wrap a sheet of yellow felt around a big wad of cotton., sew or glue it inside of your popcorn bucket.

Now for the popcorn!

7. cut 2-3" circles from yellow felt. Taking one, place a small wad of cotton inside and gather the felt around it. You can either use glue to secure the felt, or hand sew it.

Sew (or glue) to the top of your popcorn bucket. Repeat until you cover the whole top of your popcorn bucket!

Voila! I know it looks yummy, but please, don't eat the little popcorn guy! Now go microwave yourself a bag of popcorn. (I'm going to!!)

Roots Coffee House

Hey you guys, How is your day going? Do you have any fun projects planned for the day?? I'm sitting here at Roots CoffeeHouse in North Richland Hills, browsing pinterest and blog hopping while sipping my hot chai tea and the delicious fruit and yogurt that I ordered.

This fun coffee shop is right across the street from the college, and there are alot of students buzzing in and out grabbing some coffee between classes. It's such a hip atmosphere with the art on the walls, They also provide free wifi for their customers.

I would definitely recommend this inspiring coffee shop for anyone in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex.

Rag Rug Slippers

Restyled Vintage Sewing Box

My mom gave me this old sewing box to restyle and store supplies in. The fabric was really faded and dirty, so I painted parts of the box, and recovered some of it. the top can be used as a pin cushion. ;)

Run Crayons through your Hot Glue Gun- a DIY.

After seeing alot of art like this on pinterest, I finally decided to do it myself and share a little DIY with you!

Note-- This will ruin your glue gun. I've had mine forever, so I needed a new one anyhow and they are only like $3.00 at wally-world. ;)

Supplies: Old glue gun, crayons, canvas.

(You will also need a scrap piece of cardboard or newspaper to put down. This can be messy.)

1. Remove all the papers from your crayons.

2. Stick into your glue gun like you would a glue stick. It's a little tight, but they fit. ;)

3. Cover your entire canvas by squeezing the crayons out of the glue gun.

I used pictures from the snorkeling trip we took out in Key Largo for this page. I had bought me a cheap underwater camera so that I could take pictures of the coral reefs, and fish. We saw a 6ft long nurse shark too, but I didn't get a picture. :(

Project 366

I decided to do a project 365 this year, (If you haven't heard of project 365, it's where you take a picture everyday for a year.) and then I realized it's a leap year, so It's actually project 366. :)

I'm going to do a once a week post with my pictures from that week. Hopefully I can keep this up for a year? maybe?

Make your own Touch Screen Gloves

I'm sure you've probably seen the gloves at the store that you can use on touch screens? They've been around for a couple of years, but I just haven't wanted to spend $20 on a pair of gloves. So I just took my gloves off whenever I wanted to use my iphone in the cold. ;)

Then I saw something online that said you could restyle an old pair of gloves to use with your phone using conductive thread. I don't know where you can buy this locally, but I got my thread off of etsy.

Supplies- An old pair of gloves, Conductive thread, Needle & Scissors

So instead of paying a ridiculous price for a pair of gloves, I paid $2.50 for some conductive thread to add to the cute gloves I already had!

August

I was a finalist in Creating Keepsakes Teen Talent Contest, I showed you how to make a "Floating Sidebar" for your blog, I designed some Vintage Camera clipart for you to download, and Veronic guest posted with this Bottle Cap Necklace DIY.

September

In September, my family and I took a trip from Maine to Florida, but here on the blog I showed you how to make a Cutie-Pie Owl Hat, posted a tutorial for a Cozy Fall Poncho, and Lilac and Lace guest posted with this Junk Mail Wreath DIY.

October

I swam with dolphins in the Florida Keys, I showed you how to decorate pumpkin using scrapbook supplies, I posted a tutorial on restyling an old hardback book into a laptop case, and LDC Designs guest posted with free iphone wallpapers.

November

In November, My family and I ran the Dallas Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, I entered a photo into the Alliance for Biking and Walking photography contest, posted a tutorial for a canvas art journal, and I wrapped my headphones in yarn.

December

I posted a tutorial for Angry Birds Christmas Ornaments, Posted a tutorial for making wire ear cuffs, Practiced my photography skills, and painted Lucille Ball as pop art.

January

In January, I had a blog party here on punk projects featuring lots of inspiration and DIY's from me and other blogger. Including this Tea Cup Pin Cushion, Polaroid Handlebar Bag, Wallet Refurb, Pillowcase Dresses, and more!

February

In February, We had snow here in Texas! Punk Projects joined facebook, Hosted a free online Valentines craft class, posted photoshop tips and tricks 1, 2, and 3. and announced a new online craft class, Boldly Going.

March

I covered my sisters sewing machine in woodgrain contact paper, I did a tutorial for Contact Paper Screen Printing, and a tutorial for a cute Spring Wreath. Creating Keepsakes guest posted with a tutorial.
We also took a road trip to Missouri to visit Red Velvet Art.

April

I guest posted on The Perfect Pear with this Sock Bunny DIY. I posted a tutorial for Polaroid Post-it notes. I redesigned my blog, Showed you how to Restyle your Scissors with this DIY.

May

Punk Projects hosted it's first ATC swap (Thinking of doing it again this year, you interested?)
Just Because by LeeLee guest posted with a tutorial showing how to make Notebook Fabric.
I made a lot of projects for the Design team I was on, And Dom guest posted with this tutorial on restyling your old paint brushes.

In June, I was published in Creating Keepsakes Magazine (squeeee!)
I guest posted on Scrapbook News and Reviews with this Paper Bag Mini Album DIY, Announced the return of Camp Indie our online craft class. I made a journal out of an old bicycle tire.

Fabric Ruffle Pouch DIY

I got a request from Dita at Handmade Nest asking me how to sew a zipper pouch with a fabric ruffle on it! So here it it.. enjoy :)

I will just admit it, I am terrible at trying to explain how to sew a zipper. Usually when I'm sewing zippers, I'm griping at it because it's all rumpled, or I didn't do something right. This time though, it turned out pretty well.

If you aren't sure how to sew the zipper, I will gladly refer you to this nice tutorial.

Paracord Key Chain DIY

Let's just say that you're camping and you forgot to bring rope to tie something down, wouldn't it be great if you magically had 10 feet of rope on your keychain?

Paracord was originally designed for parachutes during world war 2, so it will hold up to 550 pounds before breaking. You may have seen different survival bracelets or key chains around the internet, this is alot like those.

I made a couple of these for my dad for Christmas. :)

Supplies:

10' of Paracord 550. (I got mine from this etsy shop.)

Key Ring

Scissors

Candle or Lighter

Note: You want to pull them through so that you have about 5 inches between your knot and your keychain.

Now whenever you suddenly need 10 feet of rope, just unwrap your keychain and voila!

Another cool way to use paracord is to make a survival bracelet. Here's a good tutorial for one..

A Very Vintage Christmas

As I mentioned before, My family and I did a Chinese Christmas party, but instead of "normal gifts", we all had to bring Vintage Toys! I brought a Talking Viewmaster with Star Trek reels, and then came home with lite brites!!

I'm so excited about the lite brites, I can remember playing with some when I was little. :) I don't remember all of the gifts, but I know there was also a vintage Yahtzee game (from the 1950s!) a vintage Monopoly game, a Visible Man, Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, etc!

Hello Punk Project fans! I’m Abby from the blog indigo 26. One of my favorite things about Katie is how she reuses and repurposes items to make the coolest projects. Birds on a Wire

These are a couple of pieces of art I made for my sister, Taylor. They were inspired by this tutorial on FaveCrafts. However I put my birds on a wire instead of tree branches.

I used mod podge on the old book pages, and then painted the birds. I also added a little bit of black flocking to the birds, so they are fuzzy! :)

She's got another piece of art with birds on it, so these will look great on her art wall!

Yes, I have a slight Star Trek obsession. I'm okay with that.

The pictures for this layout were from the Star Trek exhibits from our trip to NASA and the Kennedy Space Center. They were ever trekkie's dream come true, There were costumes, props, etc. I even got to sit in the captains chair! How cool is that??

Okay, I will stop being a nerd now. Mostly. ;)

On my layout, you will find some embellishments that I drew in photoshop (using my Bamboo tablet) and then printed out and attached to my layout. These include the little Star Trek Girls, the Enterprise and the bright pieces of patterned paper.

Whether you are making these as a few last minute Christmas presents, or just making a couple for yourself, Ear cuffs are quick and easy to make. And you don't have to have pierced ears to wear them. ;)

I made a few for my mom and sister, who are allergic to regular earrings so they don't have pierced ears. Anyway, here's the tutorial.

Do you love how this page turned out as much as I do? I fell in love with the papers from Cosmo Cricket the moment I saw them and I wanted to use them on this page! I cut the woodgrain circle out of woodgrain contect paper, then added another circle ontop of it for my journaling.

An Early Christmas Present

I got the cutest (early) Christmas present in the mail today from Dom. She sent me some beautiful fabric earrings she made, and that awesome felt ornament with my name on it!! Isn't she the sweetest?

Kennedy Space Center Scrapbook Layout

We visited the Kennedy Space Center in Florida while we were on our East Coast trip back in the Fall. It was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Not only did we get to see all of the exhibits (including the Star Trek exhibits, which I did a different layout for, I will post pics soonish!) But while we were in the gift shop looking around, we ran into an astronaut signing autographs! So, I got him to sign a postcard, which I included on this layout!

For this layout, I knew I wanted a really big rocket so I painted one on. ;) I also had some stickers that I had designed in photoshop a while back (using my bamboo tablet) which I printed out and glued on. Those are the planets, starbursts, and the robot tape strips..

I also attached a pocket to the back of my layout for my journaling. I cut out the old "newspaper" and sewed it onto my journaling, so that it sticks out at the top of the page, and you can just pull on it to see my journaling. ;)

This is a scraplift of a layout I saw in Creating Keepsakes magazine (October 2011 issue, pg 32, if you want to see the original)

The layout that I was inspired by was a 2 page LO, but it was turned sideways so it was vertical. I really wanted to give it a try, and so I decided to give it a go using some pictures from the Smithsonian.

What do you think? Awesome, or too crazy? I'm thinking awesome. ;)

Turkey Trot

Just thought I would share a couple of pictures from yesterday. We spent Thanksgiving going to the big Dallas 5k Turkey Trot. It was my first time to run a 5k, It was so fun! Although, I will admit to being a little sore today. just a little though. ;)

They set a world record of having 661 people dressed as turkeys. I was not one of them. ;)

Recycled Christmas Decorations DIY

Want the story behind this project? We were out garage-saling and came across this big bucket of Christmas decorations and craft supplies for only $1 (which included this huge stack of felt! so happy!) anyways, there was this strange white table centerpiece, which we would have never used. I decided to take it apart and turn into something else. ;)

I also took pictures so that I could turn it into this fun tutorial.

NYC Scrapbook Layout

I did a 2-pager layout for my pictures from New York City, I don't think I blogged here on Punk Projects about our trip to NYC, so let me just give you the short story--

We took a trip down the entire east coast of the US, and only had 1 day to spend in NYC.

It was pouring down rain that day. We didn't want to pay for a taxi, so we walked

over 40 blocks through Manhattan, in the pouring rain.

It was awesome!

Felt Thanksgiving Fortune Cookies DIY

With Thanksgiving only a week away, I thought I would post this fun tutorial that Taylor and I came up with- Felt Thanksgiving Fortune Cookies!

You could use these simply as decorations, or a neat thing to do would be to have everyone write what they are thankful for, and put in the cookies, and then have everyone open them up later...

Supplies:

Tan-colored felt

Sew-on Snaps

Bits of white paper, or 1/4" twill ribbon

Tools:

Scissors

Needle and thread

1. Cut out 4 inch circles out of tan felt.

2. Write out thankful thoughts and wishes on strips of paper.

3. Position and sew on snaps. The first should be on the front, the two parts of it opposite of each other, while the second snap goes on the back, in the other direction. Basically, one snap set goes vertically, the other horizontally.

4. Place in fortunes, fold in half, snap the first snap, and then pull the ends together towards the middle, and snap closed.

Philadelphia Scrapbook Layout

I made this layout using pictures from Philadelphia, We went to Independence Hall, The Franklin Institute, Liberty Bell, etc. And yes, I did scrapbook a picture of my Philly cheese steak. ;)

I cut the Liberty Bell out of chipboard, and then used a combination of shrapies and mists to give it an old look.

Independence Hall was under construction when we were there so I didn't get a good picture of it, but I cut one out of the brochure we got while we were there.

As I was about to scrapbook my pictures from Boston, I remembered Creating Keepsakes October Recipe Challenge. You had to use glitter, at least 8 photos(including a detailed photo), the color yellow, and a pen.

My mom got me this neat book the other day- Drip. Dot. Swirl.

It came with a cd that had 94 free patterns to use, so I was playing with them and drew this little panda riding a unicycle. Random, I know. ;)

Kracko the Lobster Scrapbook Layout

Kracko the lobster was our mascot on the long road trip we took down the east coast this fall, so we took pictures of him everywhere we went!

This is somewhat of a scraplift from Stephanie Howell's Layout. I loved the butterflies, so I did the same thing with the little lobsters on my layout. (which I cut out on the cricut)

Do you like to scraplift layouts? I don't do it with every layout, but if I see a layout and I just absolutely love the design, I will scraplift it. ;)

Banner of Thanks- DIY Thanksgiving Decoration.

Decorating your house for Thanksgiving? why not make a cute banner out of paper scraps?

Supplies:

Yarn

Autumn-colored paper bits and scraps

Lettering (felt, chipboard, stickers, etc)

Staples or Glue

Ribbon (optional)

Scissors

1. Cut paper scraps into rectangles, 3" x 8". Fold in half, so you now have rectangles, 4" x 3".

2. The length of your yarn depends on how long you ened your banner to be. On each end, give an extra 20-24" of yarn length to hang your banner with.

3. Slip the yarn through the folded rectangles, and adhere with staples or glue. The rectangles should be about 3-5 inches apart. Continue until you have used up all your scraps.

4. In the center of the banner, adhere your message to the paper rectangles. I chose the word, "THANKS".

5. To add extra attention to the rectangles with letters on them, (my message), I add ribbon to the bottom of each rectangle.

6. Hang to display!

Hey everyone! I'm excited to announce that we are rerunning our Christmas Online Craft Class!
We'd LOVE to have you join us for this affordable, super fun, online class! Deck the Halls will run from November 29th to December 24th. The class is $25 for 20 projects.

1. What kind of projects are in the class?

Scrapbooking, papercrafting, sewing (can be done without a sewing machine), painting, altering, and so much more!

2. How long is the class? Are there deadlines?

Our online classes run for 3 weeks, with a new project every weekday. On the weekends, challenges and inspiration are posted! There are no deadlines for completing your projects, this class is totally WORK-AT-YOUR-OWN-PACE!

3. Is the class on the PunkProjects blog?

No, each of our classes is hosted on it's own private blog which is open ONLY to registered students and the instructors. The blog remains up for an additional 6 months after the class so you can always go back and look at your favorite tutorials and projects! Students who sign up are given access to the blog after paying registration.

4. Can I share my completed projects on my blog/website?

Yes, you are more than welcome to post pictures of your super cute finished works, but you must give credit with a link back to punk projects!

5. What are the tutorials for each project like?

Our tutorials for every one of our classes include detailed supply lists, instructions, and step-by-step photos for every aspect of the project, and easy variations for the finished look.

6. The class description says "extra goodies". What does that mean?

For all of our class students we like to provide a little fun surprise so we include downloadable stickers, gift tags, embellishments, etc. We also have a facebook page for the class and a flickr group for students to share their projects if they wish. We have so much fun seeing what our students do with our projects!

Cycling Tour Scrapbook Layout

This is a scraplift of a layout I saw that Piradee Talvanna did in the September 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes.

I added more patterned papers to my layout, but I loved the tags that she used and the bakers twine.

The pictures are from our Cycling/Road Trip we took down the East Coast. I loved the blue background paper simply because it had cute little bicycles all over it!

USE PRETTY COLORS IN YOUR BLOG POST

Want to write in something other than black but you don't like the Primary colors that the blog post editor offers? Try using color codes to get different colors! Here's how--

1. Type out your blog post like you normally would, than highlight the text that you want to change the color of.

2. Click one of the primary colors that blogger offers. (Don't worry, it wont stay that color this is just the easiest way to get the right HTML)

3. Click the HTML tab at the top of your blog post and find this code..
your colored text here.

4.Now where it says "red" (or whatever primary color you chose) highlight that and then go to http://www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm and copy the code for whichever pretty color you want.
5. Paste your new color code into the part of code where it says "red". So instead of this-
your colored text here.
it looks more like this-
your colored text here.

Now you can have pretty colors, and you didnt have to mess with tooo much HTML! Hope you guys find this tutorial useful.. :)
